The Chogoria route is widely considered the most scenic and rewarding ascent to the summit of Mount Kenya. This is because, along this route, you'll see amazing sights like the Nithi Waterfalls, Mau Mau Caves, the Gorges Valley, lake Ellis, Lake Michaelson, Mugi Hill, Hall Tarns, Simba Tarn, views of Hanging Tarn, and more and stunning rock formations. For instance, Rocks Valley. It's a truly breathtaking journey.

The route offers a gradual ascent, making it suitable for hikers of all levels. In addition, this is the route where you will experience 10 of the Largest Lakes and Tarns on Mount Kenya. The Chogoria route in Mount Kenya is, however, the Longest in terms of trekking distance compared to the most popular Mount Kenya climbing routes, Naro Moru and Sirimon.


Accommodation Options on Chogoria Route Mount Kenya:

Our Mount Kenya climbing package through the Chogoria route is an all-inclusive tour. We'll provide the gear for camping and cooking, plus porters to carry your Rucksack up to 15 kg weight limit. Here are the accommodation options.


  • Mountain Huts: Enjoy comfortable accommodation in mountain huts for two nights.
  • Camping: Experience the true wilderness by camping under the stars for two or all four nights.


While camping is possible on all nights, combining hut stays and camping may incur additional costs. Huts are primarily available on the Sirimon and Naro Moru routes. On the Chogoria route, camping is the primary accommodation option.


The best time to climb Mount Kenya is during the dry seasons: January to March and August to September. The weather is clearer, and reaching the summit is easier.

While you can climb year-round, the rainy seasons (April-June and October-December) are majorly rainy season. Trails can be muddy, and visibility is poor. However, if you love snow, the rainy season offers plenty from just below Harris Tarn round to Austrian Hut.
